Luxury Summer Stays

Posted on 09 June 2023

Summer is here and our minds turn to glorious travel and restful holidays abroad.  Beach stays and fabulous hotel rooms.
Where do the people craving the most luxurious trips go and stay?

Fiji-
You could try Hilltop Villa, on Laucala Island, Fiji -one of the world’s largest private island resorts, with just 25 villas.

Owned by Red Bull CEO Dietrich Mateschitz, Laucala Island – so the blurb on the website says -offers unspoiled rain forests, mangroves, beaches, and ‘unparalleled levels of luxury living’.

You get there by plane – thats on the resort’s own planes of course, after waiting in the resort’s private lounge at the nearest airport. And then land on the private airstrip.

The island offers  a vast array of activities – scuba diving, sailing, fishing, tennis, cycling, golf, yoga, horse riding, culture nights, tours, and water sports – nearly all of these are complimentary. They’re a 24 hour dr and full medical services . Dining there is a whole new level -products and ingredients are raised and grown on the island for use in the spa and across the five gourmet restaurants. You can pick vanilla pods, enjoy the islands own honey, admire the herd of wagyu cattle, watch the fruit harvest and then enjoy it at one of the restaurants or in your own villa. The island resort has its own fleet of boats to suit every occasion, excursion and aesthetic.

Each residence has its own special details – like private docks, pools carved into rocks. Thousands of private square footage per villa. There’s a golf buggy for each villa for pottering about the resort. The wifi is exceptional (which, considering we cant get signal in half of UK, is an amazing feat in itself!) Each villa has its own dedicated ‘Tau” – (Fijian for ‘friend’) who is basically your own butler/PA/runner. Prices from $6000-$9000 per night.

And the ultimate place to stay when there? At the very top of the island is the massive Hilltop Villa ($60,000 USD per night). This place comes with  over 13,000 square metres of living space, plus a private chauffeur, nanny and chef.  Its not often rented out, considering the cost, but PR businesswoman and socialite Roxy Jacenko has stayed here and published pictures. Oprah Winfrey took her best friend here for a girls trips away.
